Chapter Fifteen

Paris, France

Gaia chewed her bottom lip in frustration. Since she’d woken to tell Asa that Kabir was close, she hadn’t been able to rest. She explained what Kabir had said in his dream, but Asa didn’t seem to want to take it seriously. “Sweetling, he can yearn all he wants, but you and I are forever. He’s playing a game with you. Playing for time until he figures out a way to kill you.”

Gaia frowned. “I’m not sure.”

“He’s not in love with you.” Asa realized what his words sounded like and smiled ruefully. “Not that I would blame him. But Kabir isn’t capable of tenderness. He doesn’t know what love is.”

Gaia wasn’t so sure but she decided not to push it. She wasn’t scared by the dream—if it was a dream—just annoyed and that wasn’t going to get her anywhere.

They were having breakfast out on the balcony of their hotel suite, Gaia scarfing down croissants, ravenous for some reason. Asa watched her with an amused grin. “Would you believe, even covered with crumbs and a smudge of butter on your cheek, you’re still the most beautiful sight in the world to me?”

Gaia, her cheeks bulging with pastries, gave him a cheesy grin and he laughed. “After everything, you can still make me laugh.”

“Life isn’t worth living without it.” Gaia had finally sated herself and sat back. “And let’s be real. This isn’t the worst that it could have been.” She looked at her hand, seeing the translucence that had not been there before. “I can’t see any worsening of the fading, can you?”

“No. But neither can I see any improvement.”

She looked at him. “Do I feel different? When you hold me, does it feel… less?”

Asa shook his head. “No, actually. Not at all.”

“When we make love…”

“There’s no difference except maybe I love you more each day.”

She leaned over then and kissed him. “Then show me…”

He laughed. “You’re not too full?”

“Take me to bed, Thorn.”

Even with her own enhanced speed, it still shocked her how fast Asa could move. Before she even blinked, she was on the bed and he was pushing her robe aside to kiss her body.

Gaia’s hands pushed at his shirt, practically tearing it from him. His broad, muscular shoulders were like catnip to her and she bit down on one of them, making Asa laugh.

“Oh, you wanna play that game again, huh?”

Gaia grinned up at him. “Everywhere.”

He smiled and kissed her throat and then trailed his lips down her body, grazing her skin now and again, teasing her until he reached the soft curve of her belly. His tongue sweep around the deep hollow of her navel then Gaia gasped as Asa sank his fangs into the gentle curve beneath it. His venom pulsed through her bloodstream and she gave herself over to the absolute pleasure of it, her limbs liquifying, then when Asa’s huge, hard cock thrust into her, she wrapped her legs around his waist and dug her nails into his hard buttocks.

“Deeper, baby,
